Deaths investigated in the setting of a hoard can seem overwhelming if you're not familiar with the challenges of these investigations. This course aims to demystify the hoarding scene by providing the student with a focused look into the scene findings and decedent characteristics unique to these cases. Students who take this course will explore decedent psychology, scene findings, body condition, and cause and manner of death. They will also take a look into one of the most famous hoarding death scene responses of all time: the Collyer Brothers. After completing this course, you'll be able to: 🟡 Identify common psychological disorders associated with hoarding behavior. 🟡 Recognize physical threats unique to this scene response. 🟡 Differentiate between hoarding v. squalor and object v. animal hoards. 🟡 Identify characteristics unique to this decedent population. 🟡 Narrow down critical points of the scene for evidence collection. 🟡 Narrow down critical points of the scene for photography. 🟡 Anticipate postmortem changes supported by the hoarding environment. 🟡 Identify frequent causes of death supported by the hoarding environment. 🟡 Illustrate what each manner of death may look like in the hoarding environment. 🟡 Recognize the potential for multiple fatality response in these unique scenes.
